Our cute daughter turned 6 and she loves the Disney movie Moana. She requested a Moana birthday party. We had so much fun decorating, playing games, and being together with family and friends.
It was a birthday party to remember. Here are our Moana birthday party ideas.
Moana Birthday Party Invitations
There are several different options for Moana invitations. Having a themed invitation is one of the great Moana party ideas.
The most affordable is the online free option. There are several different free online invitation companies. You can download an invitation with a watermark from postermywall.com for free.
It is an animated video invitation with music, and can easily be sent by email. You can text it, if those receiving the invitation can recieve MP4 text.
We choose to go with a Luau invitation from Canva. This is a little easier to text but they don’t have specific Moana invitations. The invitations are easy to add your information to, and the design stays the same, but you can change the text boxes to personalize the party date, time, and place.
Once downloaded you can quickly text the invitation out to your family and friends, or print them by uploading them to a photo website. We like to use Walgreens photos when printing our invitations.
We usually use text invitations to our family and friends for birthday parties because we have found it to be the easiest way for our family and friends to communicate.
These cute Moana birthday invitations from Amazon can be ordered and delivered to your door with free shipping. You fill out the party details on the invitation by hand and then put them in the envelopes.
The invitations come with envelopes. You then can deliver them to your neighbors and friends, by hand or send them through the mail.
Moana Birthday Party Decorations
Decorations are always fun. We choose to buy a birthday luau decoration party kit like this one. It worked well for Disney’s Moana birthday party theme. The balloon arch was easy to assemble.
I recommend blowing up each balloon and placing them on the balloon strip. It is easier to position different sizes of balloons throughout the arch with all the balloons blown up. We loved the balloons with the confetti inside.
This kit comes with a happy birthday banner and a fun luau banner. I love the flamingos, pineapple, and palm trees. They add to the decorations and give you options.
If you want a Moana birthday party kit check out this one here. We used the palm leaves from our decorations kit as table decorations. It was fun to have the little umbrellas for our drinks. All the little touches add to the theme and make it feel like you are on Moana’s beautiful island.
More Moana Decoration Ideas
Coconuts are a great decoration idea. We decorated our party with a few Coconuts. We purchased them from our local grocery store and then drew faces on them to make them Kakamora coconuts like in Moana.
At the end of the party, we opened the coconuts with a hammer. We drank the coconut juice and ate the coconut flesh. It’s a unique food that is not often eaten where we live, but everyone enjoyed eating some. It was a great option for a Moana party-themed snack.
The decoration kit also comes with fake greenery and hibiscus flowers which we used to decorate and create a Moana crown for the birthday girl.
We made a paper machete volcano, it was a fun creative idea. It turned out to be one of our favorite Moana party supplies. We had a lot of fun creating it the week before the birthday party. It also served as a fun decoration.
Moana Birthday Party Food Ideas
Great food options for a Moana birthday party are traditional luau foods. We decided to go with the pork butt. We smoked the pork butt on the Trager.
Rolls are a great food option. You can purchase Hawaiian rolls or make your own with this recipe, a great dish for your Hawaiian party.
Macaroni salad, cole slaw, fresh fruits, and vegetables are all great options for a luau-themed birthday party.
Fun Party Drinks
We made homemade root beer because the kids love to watch the dry ice bubble over the side of the drink container.
Another fun drink option would be pineapple juice. They come in small cans, perfect for your guests to try.
These coconut cups are a great festive Moana party idea. If you are looking for a plastic cup, that your birthday girl’s best friend and Moana fans will love, this is it!
If you don’t want to serve your guests a whole meal plan your party between meals and have a few snacks. We like to use easy grab-and-go snacks so the kids can get something if they are hungry and continue to play.
Place some fruit of Tefiti and other snacks in the right place, easy access to your guests. Some of our favorites are little cutie oranges, pretzel sticks, cheese sticks, applesauce packets, sliced strawberries, or other fresh fruit.
Birthday Dessert Ideas
These adorable Moana cupcake toppers are a great idea for your birthday celebration. Whip up your favorite cupcake recipe and add these toppers for a festive dessert. They will look so cute on your dessert table.
If you’ve read any of our other birthday posts you know we love to make donut cakes. Donuts stacked up is an often requested birthday treat at our home. We stack donuts up and add a topper to fit our theme. It’s easy to serve and less crumbly than cakes and cupcakes. Use this cute Moana doll in the middle of your donut cake to make an easy donut Moana cake.
These heart of Tefiti cookies are one of the great Moana-themed treats. Your party guests will love these sugar cookies, they are sure to be a huge hit. We love delicious treats, that are also beautiful.
Paper Products
It’s fun to have Moana-themed paper products for your snacks, food, drinks, and of course yummy birthday desserts. This is a great Moana paper product set that will make cleanup easy for your fun birthday party.
Moana Birthday Party Activities and Games
Water Games
We choose to have our Moana party at Grandma and Grandpa’s pool. A pool or other body of water is a fun setting to have a Moana party and gives it an island vibe but not necessary. We played lots of our favorite pool party games.
Music
We connected our phone to a Bluetooth speaker like this one. We played the Moana soundtrack from Amazon Music. I love the Moana soundtrack and it was fun to hear in the background of our special birthday. It was a great way to set the mood of the party.
Tafehitis Heart Hunt
We went on a Tefiti heart hunt. We made some hearts out of clay and hid them in the yard. All the kids hunted in the yard for a Tefiti heart and they got to keep the clay hearts that they found. The hunt was a big hit with our friends
If you didn’t want to make clay Tefiti hearts you could go on a scavenger hunt to find something else hidden in your party space. These chocolate coins, or some “Shiny” Crab treasures.
Paper Mache Volcano
One of the fun creative ideas we did for an activity was a volcano irruption. We made a paper mache volcano and then watched it erupt, by pouring baking soda and vinegar into the top of the volcano. It was a fun Moana-themed science experiment.
How to Make a paper mache volcano
Making a paper machete volcano is easy and fun. Starting with a cardboard base, we cut the bottom of a box so our base was a rectangle.
We used a small water bottle as the hole to the top of our volcano, securing it to the base cardboard with tape. I cut the bottle opening a little larger to allow enough space for me to pour the vinegar and baking soda in easily.
I then used a thin piece of cardboard to start the shape of the volcano to speed up our paper mache process. Our kids and I then wrapped the thin piece of cardboard to form a tipi-like structure around the secured water bottle.
Then we used newspaper and scrap paper. We cut and tore it into strips. To make the sticky glue, mix equal parts flour and water into a disposable dish.
Dip the paper strips into the flour and water mixture and layer it. It’s messy and fun! All of our kids enjoyed helping build the volcano.
Moana Birthday Girl outfit
Our daughter loves to dress up and couldn’t wait to wear this cute little Moana outfit she received as one of her birthday gifts. She loved looking like Moana as she participated in the party activities.
Moana Flower Crown
Making a Moana headband was my favorite DIY craft I did for this party. I cut a thin piece of cardboard to fit my daughter’s head. Once cut, I measured it to the size of her head. I stapled the two ends of cardboard together to form a crown.
It was a last-minute addition to her birthday outfit so I had to use things we had on hand. We have a large ivy plant in our yard, so I cut a few ivy vines from the plant. I positioned them on the cardboard and stapled them in place. If you don’t have fresh ivy you can use this fake ivy.
Then I used the tropical flowers from our birthday decorations kit to create the flower crown. It was the perfect addition to wear for a moan-themed birthday party.
Moana Themed Birthday Gifts
We love Moana’s cute pig. Pua is the name of the pig in the Moana movie. His name means flower and he sure is a support and comfort to Moana. My daughter has loved playing with her stuffy Pua, he is a fun toy and also was a great party decor.
Another fun gift idea would be the cute silly chicken named Hei Hei, he is such a silly character. He brings a lot of fun and laughter to the movie and is one of our favorite characters in the movie.
Moana Party Favors
An easy and affordable party favor for your Moana-themed birthday party is colorful leis. Place the flower leis on each of your guests as they enter your Moana birthday theme party.
Another great wearable party option would be grass skirts. Birthday themes are the best part, and Moana’s tropical vibes are sure to give this party a fun feel.
This is a great party favor bag to use for your Moana-themed party favors. Goodie bags are an easy way to give a few party favors to each of your guests. Just place the small Moana-themed favors into the bag and you are set.
These Moana tattoos are fun. You could add them to your party bags.
Some other fun party favor options would be rock candy, it is more of a novelty treat. Learning about different rocks such as tekah lava rocks could be a fun activity to tie in your rock candy party favors. It is sure to be a hit with your guests, and they fit well inside a goodie bag.
Moana Birthday Party- Conclusion
We had a great time being together and celebrating our 6-year-old’s birthday. Disney’s Moana is such a fun Disney character and one many girls look up to. I love the message of determination, courage, and strength that Moana demonstrates.
